Trazos knows the school stroke order for every letter. It shows your kid where to start and which way to go, then compares their stroke with the model letter. Three things add up to a score out of 100. **40** shape **30** direction **30** coverage ### **40** Shape How close the line stays to the letter. Right on it is full marks; way off scores nothing. ### **30** Direction Which way the stroke went. A backwards stroke still passes, but it can't score more than 70, and the first time it happens a tip says: start at the dot and follow the arrow. ### **30** Coverage How much of the letter the stroke actually covered. It has to reach both ends to count. Half a B isn't a B. A stroke passes at 60. The letter's stars come from the average of its strokes: one star at 60, two at 70, three at 85. ### What happens after a miss 1. “Almost, try the arrows,” and the stroke replays to show the way. 2. It replays again. 3. And once more. 4. The next try goes through, so nobody gets stuck. Tap Show me any time to watch the stroke drawn. On an iPad, Trazos looks like a school worksheet: activities down the side, a sheet of paper in the middle and the buttons beside it. Set the alphabet to Spanish and Ñ and the accented vowels show up too. ### Words with a picture and a voice Forty short words in each language. A picture starts the row, your kid traces the word letter by letter, and Hear it says it out loud. The first ten in each language are free. ### Mazes for steady hands Twelve mazes, from four by four up to nine by nine. Your kid can lift their finger and carry on from where they stopped. A finger can't tell the iPad how hard it's pressing, so Trazos goes by speed instead: a slow stroke comes out heavy and a quick flick tapers off. This sheet does the same with a mouse or a finger, and if your stylus reports pressure and tilt, it uses those. Brush Colour Twelve brushes ## A drawer of brushes, and every one behaves. Pencil, crayon, marker, watercolour, oil, spray, chalk, glitter, rainbow, stamps, patterns and an eraser. Each one leaves its own kind of mark. Pencil comes out grainy, crayon waxy, and oil paint shows its bristles. Each stroke builds its colour only so far, so watercolour stays a see-through wash. Apple Pencil ## Everything an Apple Pencil can do. Trazos reads pressure, tilt, direction, hover and double tap, plus squeeze and barrel roll on a Pencil Pro. The pencil needs a press before it goes dark at all. - ### Tilt Lay the Pencil on its side and the crayon goes wide and soft, like a real one. - ### Direction The crayon and the oil paint's bristles turn to follow the stroke, the way real ones do. - ### Hover Hold the tip just above the screen and an outline shows the brush and the colour it'll paint. - ### Double tap Does whatever the Pencil is set to do in Settings: swap to the eraser, go back to the last brush, or open the colours. - ### SqueezePencil Pro Squeeze a Pencil Pro and the colour picker opens. - ### Barrel rollPencil Pro Roll a Pencil Pro between your fingers and the marker's chisel tip turns with it. - ### No Pencil at all A finger works everywhere. It can't sense pressure, so speed stands in: slow strokes come out heavy and quick flicks taper. Turn on Apple Pencil only in the parent area and a hand resting on the screen won't paint. ## Twenty-four colours, and a pad to mix your own. The colours run warm to cool, then browns, greys, black and white, picked so any two side by side mix into something nice. The mixing pad blends any two of them, and Make my own opens a full colour wheel. All of it's free. Tap a circle, then a colour, and drag between them. Mixed #975B8A ## One stroke, sixteen times. Symmetry paints every stroke again on the other side: mirrored left to right, top to bottom or both ways, or turned into a kaleidoscope of six or eight. With an Apple Pencil Pro, you feel a little tap in the Pencil when a stroke crosses a mirror line. Lessons ## Forty lessons. Nothing is ever marked wrong. Each step shows the next shape as a faint outline, and your kid draws their own version over it. Nothing gets scored. ### The cat, in nine steps 1. Start with a big circle for the head. 2. Now two ears like triangles. 3. Two round eyes. 4. A little dot inside each eye. 5. A small triangle for the nose. 6. Two curves under the nose make a smile. 7. Long whiskers on both sides. 8. A soft body under the head. 9. Two paws and a curly tail. Every lesson takes eight to eleven steps, big shapes first and details last. They cover animals, faces, things that go, food, dinosaurs and flowers. Six are free, one from each: Cat, Car, Big teeth, Tulip, Sun and Apple. The black lines stay on top, so they stay crisp however messy the painting gets. Every shape on every page is closed, so a fill can't leak out of a wing, and I check all sixty before every update. Twenty are the finished drawing from a lesson: learn to draw the cat, then colour the cat. Ten pages are free. ## Three sheets, and no more. Everything. Trazos never goes online. - ### Every stroke is scored on the device. The scoring happens inside the app. Nothing your kid draws is uploaded. - ### Free writing is read on the device. Apple's text recognition, built into the iPhone or iPad, reads the page, and the device's own voice says it. No internet needed. - ### Photos of finished letters stay in the app. They go in the app's own album, not your photo library. A finger works everywhere, letters and paint studio included, and when painting, the speed of a stroke stands in for pressure. An Apple Pencil is nicer, though. On M2 iPads and newer the start dot grows as the tip comes close, and the brushes respond to pressure, tilt and hover, plus squeeze and barrel roll on a Pencil Pro. **How is a stroke scored?** Trazos compares each stroke with the model letter. Staying close to the shape is worth 40 points, going the right way 30, and covering the whole stroke 30. A stroke passes at 60, and the average across the letter earns up to three stars. After three misses the next try goes through, so nobody gets stuck. Paintings and drawing lessons are never scored. **Which letters and languages?** Uppercase and lowercase print, a simplified cursive, numbers 0 to 20, and forty short words each in English and Spanish, each with a picture and said out loud. Set the alphabet to Spanish and Ñ and the accented vowels show up too. The app itself, paint studio included, is in English and Spanish. **Why is the paint studio iPad only?** A phone screen is smaller than a sheet of paper, which is too small to paint on, and the Apple Pencil doesn't work with an iPhone. So the iPhone sticks to writing, and nothing on it mentions painting. **I bought the unlock before the paint studio. Do I pay again?** No. Trazos has only ever sold one unlock. If you bought it for the letters, every brush, lesson and colouring page is already yours, and there's nothing to restore. **What's different on the iPad?** It has its own layout. Activities run down the side, and each letter sits on a worksheet page with the model letter and copies to trace on ruled lines. The alphabet fits on one screen, the buttons sit beside the sheet in landscape, and Paint is at the bottom of the list. The phone shows one big letter per screen. **Does it print?** Yes. The parent area prints practice sheets for letters, numbers, cursive, lines and mazes, on US Letter or A4, and paintings print from the studio.
