**Lap 1/8** The wheels lab

## Type anything. It drives like the *real thing.*

Every word has a card: how hard the thing is, how bouncy, how sticky, whether it floats. The wheels get their speed, grip, bounce and float from that card. Below is the app's test strip, where your kid tries a set of wheels on a hill, ice, mud, a bump and a puddle before putting them on. Here the kart rolls into the puddle instead of jumping it, so you can see which wheels float.

1. Hill
2. Ice
3. Mud
4. Bump
5. Puddle

Wheels: cheese

tasty melts soft

Grippy wheels: keep moving through mud and ice.

### No word is the best wheels.

The four numbers always add up to the same total. More bounce means less of something else, so jelly and steel are different, never better or worse. There's no magic word to look up, and races are still won on the road.

The judge decides what a thing is like. How much that's worth is the same for every word.

**Lap 2/8** Your pocket

## Then throw it at *a rival.*

Pocket things are words too, and each one works about as well as it really would against that rival. A magnet stops the iron kart and does nothing to the balloons. A wolf scares the mouse. Before every race the starting grid shows what each thing will do to each rival, so your kid can plan a little.

Your pocket. Tap a thing to aim it.

All twelve rivals. Aimed: **magnet**

- Globita light · bouncy · floats Not much
- Pincho hard · heavy · metal It sticks!
- Raton Turbo alive · light · burns Not much
- El Frio cold · melts · slippery Not much
- Abuela Tornillo hard · heavy · metal It sticks!
- Nube light · burns · fragile Not much
- Spark Dragon hot · alive · rough Not much
- Lily Frog bouncy · alive · slippery Not much
- Luna Pilot metal · hard · magnetic It sticks!
- Honey Bee alive · light · flies Not much
- Captain Coral floats · burns · hard Not much
- Magnet Bot hard · magnetic · metal It sticks!

Worked out here with the same rules the app uses offline. Online, the judge answers these for the three rivals on the grid, so a few can come out differently in the app.

### The starting grid

Three rivals and a gate on every circuit, and the three things in the pocket. Tap another thing to aim it, or tap its pencil to swap it for a new word right there. Things from mystery boxes join in during the race.

**Lap 3/8** The race

## Two buttons. *Lots of tricks.*

The kart drives itself forward, so a race is two thumbs: Dive on the left, Jump on the right. That's enough for a five year old's first lap, and there's plenty to find after that.

Held at the sides: Dive under the left thumb, Jump under the right. On an iPad, Turbo and the pocket sit right above them.

1. ### Jump

   Tap the right side

Hold it for a longer jump. A little arc of sparks hangs over every gap, and each one is a bit of turbo.

2. ### Dive

   Hold the left side downhill

The kart pumps down the slope, and the button turns yellow where that pays. Dives, clean landings and drafting fill the turbo meter.

3. ### Rocket start

   Tap Jump right on GO

A second of turbo off the line. Tap too early and the wheels spin in place, so mashing the button doesn't work.

4. ### Flip

   Flick up in the air

A backflip, or two with big air. Land upright for turbo. Still turning when the wheels touch down means “Oops!” and a wobble.

5. ### Boing

   Land on a rival's roof

And bounce off it. The boing takes after your wheels: honey rides the roof for a moment, ice skids it, jelly goes boing-oing.

6. ### Dodge

Jump when you see the “!”

Something thrown your way comes with a warning and two beeps. Be in the air when it lands and it flies right under you.

### Three paces

- Cruise Where everyone starts. The rivals take it easy.
- Race The rivals get quicker and cleverer.
- Expert Quicker again, for the kid who has won every cup.

A hit only slows a kart down for a moment, and a rival who gets hit says something like “Hey! I dropped a crumb!”. It's rated 4+.

**Lap 4/8** Nine circuits

## Nine painted worlds. *All of them move.*

Each circuit has its own sky, its own ground, its own gate to get past and its own song. Three cups of three, with 10, 7, 4 or 2 points a race, and bronze, silver or gold at the end. Funfair Pier is free; the unlock opens the rest.

**Lap 5/8** The rivals

## Twelve rivals who *talk back.*

Each rival is made of something, and it's written on the card, so your kid can work out what to throw. They chat over their karts during the race, and they're kind about it. Boing one off its roof and it holds a little grudge, says so, and its next throw comes your way. One back and you're even.

**Lap 6/8** Race studio

## Build the race *you want.*

Pick the world, the colours, the holes, the boxes, the hills, the ground and the music. Tap the road to stamp a hole right where it should go, tap it again to take it away. Or type the idea, like “a volcano race with lots of jumps”, and the judge sets it up.

Colours

Dusk Berry

Music

Desert Drums

- **15** worlds
- **18** colour sets
- **0 to 5** holes a lap
- **0 to 12** boxes a lap
- **8** songs

Race! saves the course and starts it. A new race uses one of the day's races: **one a day free, ten with the unlock**. Typing an idea, replaying a saved race and editing it never use one.

Race studio in the app. The preview drives the lap while your kid builds it.

**Lap 7/8** Keepsakes

## Everything they invent *is kept.*

Every word your kid tries goes into a sticker book, with what it's made of and what it has done: races it rode in, throws that landed, boings off a roof. And when a race comes down to the line, the game slows down, flashes, and keeps the photo.

### My inventions

Tap a sticker to put it on the wheels or in a pocket. Your kid can throw one away too; the app asks once first.

**Funfair Pier** Finished 3rd of 4 · 0:36.8 Neck and neck with Lily Frog

### Photo finish!

When it's that close, the last second plays in slow motion with the line in the middle, then a flash and a shutter click. The print waits on the results and stays in My photos.

**Lap 8/8** For grown ups

## The one app that goes online. *Here's all of it.*

Every other Kid Secure Games app stays offline. Rueda needs a judge for words it has never seen, so a brand new word goes to my server on its own, and nothing about who typed it goes along.

1. ### Your kid types a word

It's cleaned up on the device first: lowercase, no accents, one leading “a” or “the” dropped, six words at most.

2. ### Is it already inside?

**2,091 words** come judged in the app, in English and Spanish. Those, and every word judged before on this device, answer at once and nothing is sent.

3. ### A new word goes alone

To judge.kidsecuregames.com, which asks an AI model (TypeSafe's Jev) the same set of questions about every thing and gets back numbers and choices from a closed list, never written text.

4. ### The card comes back

How hard, how bouncy, whether it floats. The wheels are built from that on the device, and the card stays there.

Try a word the app knows, like cheese, one it doesn't, or “my name is Ana”.

A new word, so the app would send this, and only this:

    POST judge.kidsecuregames.com/v1/judge
    {"t":"card.v1","lang":"en","phrase":"skateboarding penguin"}

It also carries a pass that shows the question came from the app, the same in every copy of Rueda.

### Never sent

- A name or an account (there is no account)
- A device or advertising ID
- Location, voice or photos
- Race names and saved races

### Stopped before it leaves

Words that are never for kids, and anything that looks personal, like “my name is”, “I live in” or a phone number, are refused on the device and never sent. The server checks again.

### Not for kids? Squeak.

A word that isn't for children comes back as a rubber chicken: “That turned into a rubber chicken. Try a different word.” Silly words, made-up words and cartoon swords are all fine.

### One switch turns it off

In Grown ups. With it off, your kid picks from the 2,091 words already in the game, and races are built with the offline controls. Everything else plays the same.

The judge keeps each word's answer so the next kid who types cheese gets it at once, and it never keeps anything that could say who asked. Race ideas typed in Race studio (up to 280 characters) go the same way and aren't kept. The [privacy policy](https://kidsecuregames.com/privacy#rueda) has every detail.

**Final lap!** Free and the unlock

## Free to invent. *One unlock* for every track.

Everything your kid invents works on the free circuit, and every saved race replays forever. One payment opens the rest of the tracks and the cups, Family Sharing covers the family, and that's the whole deal.

**Pit stop** Questions

## Asked at *the pit stop.*

**What does rueda mean?**

Wheel, in Spanish. It's the first thing your kid invents.

**Why does this one go online?**

Only to judge a word it hasn't seen before. More than two thousand words come already judged inside the app, so most never leave the iPad. A brand new one goes on its own to my judge server, which asks an AI model what the thing is like and gets numbers back. No name, account or device ID goes with it.

**What if my kid types something that isn't for kids?**

It turns into a rubber chicken: “Squeak! That turned into a rubber chicken. Try a different word.” Words that are never for kids are caught on the device before anything is sent, and the judge turns down the rest. Anything that looks personal, like a name, an address or a phone number, is stopped on the device too. A word the judge hasn't checked never goes on the kart.

**Does it work without internet?**

Yes. Every circuit, all 2,091 words already in the game and all of the racing work offline. Brand new words need the internet, because the judge checks each one before it can go on the kart.

**Can I turn the online part off?**

Yes. Open Grown ups at the bottom of the garage and switch off Online word and race lab. Nothing is sent after that: your kid picks from the 2,091 words already in the game, and everything else plays the same.

**iPhone or iPad?**

Both, held sideways. On an iPad the buttons stack in the bottom corners right under your kid's thumbs, and on a phone they sit in one row.

**Does my kid need to be able to spell?**

No. Every word screen has picture tiles to tap, and the Surprise me button picks one. Typing is there for the kid who wants a thousand hamsters.

## Rueda is out. *Race you there.*

On the App Store for iPhone and iPad, in English and Spanish, and free to download. The lab up top still takes any word you throw at it.
