Scroll sideways. power-ups ## What's inside - three panels ### Cause and effect, side by side The script and the stage are visible at the same moment, which is the whole pedagogy. On a phone you would see one at a time, which is why this app is not on a phone. - pictures ### Blocks are pictures, not words An arrow means go, a curved arrow means turn, a loop with a number in it repeats. A five year old who cannot read can program. Text labels can be switched on for older children. - puzzles ### Sixty puzzles, six chapters Sequence, repetition, events, conditions, and then two chapters that put them together. Three stars for solving inside the block budget. - sandbox ### A sandbox with no puzzle at all Pick a background, place characters, give each its own script, press Run. Projects save without limit. - share ### Send a project to a cousin A project exports as a file that opens in another copy of the app. Still no server: just Files, Messages or AirDrop. - proven ### Every puzzle is proven solvable The engine is plain code with no graphics in it, so the test suite replays all sixty solutions in about two seconds without ever opening a simulator. free vs unlocked ## Free to download. Only adding a new locked block brings up the paywall, because a child's programs are their data. faq ## Questions about Pasos **Does a child need to read to use it?** No. Every block is an icon and a colour, and the puzzles are pictures. Text labels are off for the youngest and on by default from about seven. **How is it different from the coding apps at school?** It is offline, it has no account and it never uploads a project. The trade is that there is no gallery of other people's work, on purpose. **Why iPad only?** Because the three panels have to be visible at once, and because dragging a stack of blocks with one finger while scrolling the palette with another needs a real surface. ## Pasos is almost here Finished, and being tested.
