# Mira. Point at a thing, learn the word.

Tap, and the app names what the camera sees, big, in English and in Spanish, and says both out loud. Found words fill a sticker book. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing is saved unless the child taps Keep.

The room is drawn for this page. The words on the cards are from Mira's own list.

Point and name

## Both languages, every time

Los dos idiomas, cada vez

The English word and the Spanish word appear together and are both spoken. There is no language switch to forget, because seeing them side by side is the point.

1. **apple** The English word comes first, big.
2. **la manzana** The Spanish word sits right under it, with its article, because that is how a child learns a word.
3. **Two speakers** Both words are spoken, English with an English voice, then Spanish with a Mexican Spanish voice. Each speaker says its word again.
4. **Keep** Keep puts the word in the sticker book with a small picture. Again looks at something else.

Three hundred words, and every one of them in English and in Spanish, with its article.

Quiet on purpose

## Saying nothing beats the wrong word

Más vale callar que equivocarse

Below a confidence floor the app asks the child to get a bit closer rather than guessing, and it never names a person. A curated 300 word map keeps the answers to words a child actually uses.

One tap of the shutter. What the classifier returned, most sure first:

`mug` 0.62 maps to **cup**

`people` 0.81 never named not in this picture

Above the 0.25 floor, and mug maps to cup: the card names it, in English and in Spanish.

1. One look per tap of the shutter, on the device. Never on the live picture.
2. A person at the top of the results means no word at all.
3. A result only counts if it passes Apple's own recall gate and reaches 0.25.
4. The first result that is one of the 300 words wins. Broad labels like food or animal stay out of the map, so they never cover a real word.
5. Every label in the map is checked against the classifier's own list each time the tests run.

The home screen

## What is that?

¿Qué es eso?

The question at the top of the home screen, and four ways to answer it. Each child has a profile of their own, with their own sticker book.

- [**Hunts**Find something round, something you eat](#hunts)
- [**Colours**The colour under the circle, live](#colours)
- [**Sticker book**38 of 300 words found](#book)

Hunts

## Twenty scavenger hunts

Veinte búsquedas del tesoro

Six to ten targets each: a category, a colour, a shape, a specific thing. The house becomes the game board, and finishing one earns a badge.

A find ticks the first open line it matches, so the apple counts as something you eat before it can count as something red. A cup or a spoon never counts as something you eat.

Colours

## Colours, named live

Los colores, en vivo

A circle in the middle of the camera names the colour under it in both languages, about four times a second. Never metered.

- **13** colour words, each one in both languages.
- **5** readings at a time, the dots above the name. The middle one wins, so the name holds still on a boundary.
- **8** rounds in the colour game. Find something pink, busca algo rosa, and hold it there.
- **Free** in full, on every device. Colours is never metered.

Sticker book

## A sticker book of everything found

Un álbum con todo lo encontrado

Every word sits greyed out until the day it is found, with the date. Children go looking for the gaps, which is the whole loop.

Tap a sticker to see both words again and hear them, with the date it was found and the picture that was kept.

> The sticker stays in your book. Only the picture goes.

What Mira says when a child throws their own picture away.

With the unlockThe parent area makes a printable sticker sheet. Print it, cut the stickers out, and stick them where the things live.

Privacy

## No photo leaves, and most are never kept

Ninguna foto sale, y casi ninguna se queda

A picture is only stored when the child taps Keep, as a small thumbnail inside the app's own folder. Nothing is written to the photo library and nothing is uploaded.

1. **Tap** The frame freezes and is looked at once, on the device.
2. **Again or Close** The picture is gone. It was only ever held in memory.
3. **Keep** A thumbnail of 512 pixels goes into Mira's own folder. The child can throw it away from the sticker book, the parent area deletes them all, and deleting the app deletes them too.

- Never saved to Photos
- Never uploaded
- Never names a person, and no face is detected or stored
- No account, no ads, no tracking

## Questions

Preguntas

**How accurate is it?**

It is tuned to be quiet rather than wrong. A curated word list, a confidence floor and a recall gate mean it will often say try again, and a check in the test suite re-verifies the whole word map against the classifier's own labels.

**Does it recognise people?**

It refuses to. A person is never named, by design, and no face is ever detected or stored.

**Where do kept pictures go?**

Into the app's own container as a small thumbnail, and nowhere else. Not the photo library, not a server. Deleting the app deletes them.
